Million Mile Light is an ultra bright, battery-free safety light for runners that's powered by motion & engineered to never give up. Geoff Wightman, MD for runbritain recently tested it out. This is what he said...
On reflection (no pun intended), I had seen something very similar to the Million Mile Light once before. In 2012 , at the Edinburgh Fringe, there was a nightly performance of a show called ‘Speed of Light’ where dozens of hill runners ran in formation around and across Arthur’s Seat in pitch darkness wearing special body suits. These had lots of little LED lights sewn on, illuminating their whereabouts and powered only by their own movements. It was spectacular. I wondered then whether that sort of technology could be made available to regular runners and here it is.
The Million Mile Light is now available for retail in the form of two rubber clad LED lights that attach to a supplied belt and which activate through runner’s movement. They give off a strong beam, ideal for running in the dark. It’s a similar sort of beam strength to the one that you find in top end head torches. A belt isn’t a directional as a head torch but the huge plus for this new gadget is that it requires no batteries and no re-charging. It keeps going as long as you do. It’s the creation of a young British entrepreneur and inventor, Tom Lawton.
Million Mile Light has recently been launched on Kickstarter.
