World Best for Angela Copson at Great Manchester Run

GreatRun

The Morrisons Great Manchester Run that took place yesterday produced fast times and low handicap scores for many and a couple of World Best Masters times to boot!

One of the most impressive results of the day has to be Angela Copson's (handicap 8.6) time of 40:30 that is a new world best for W65! Angela, who is also the fastest woman in the world, for her age, in the marathon only started running at the age of 59 when she trained for the London Marathon to raise money for heart research two days after her 60th birthday. She broke 4 hours with a time of 3:57:15!

Angela's new 10k time of 40:30 stretches her lead even more in the All time UK rankings. She was previously out in front by 47 seconds with her time of 42:11, that she set last year at the Bespak GEAR, and has now formed a gap of 2:18 between herself and Janette Stevenson (handicap 9.1) who ran 42:48 at the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish 10k last October.

Another that impressed was Bernard Lagat of the USA who finished 3rd overall and, with a time of 27:48, broke Haile Gebrselassie’s Masters World Best, for a 40 year old, by 12 seconds. Five-time Great Manchester Run winner Gebrselassie finished 16th overall in 30:05.
