Welsh Athletics International
We published news earlier about the International Snowdon Race on Saturday 21 July, but if taking part in (or even watching) mountain running isn’t your thing but you’re a Welsh athletics fan, you might be interested in alternative...
The Welsh Athletics International takes place on Wednesday 18 July and is a unique chance for Wales to showcase the best of Olympic and Welsh athletics talent just days before the start of the 2012 Games.
Many Nations, including USA, Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Botswana, South Africa, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Chile, Haiti, British Virgin Islands and Costa Rica have already confirmed their participation.
The line up includes athletes of the stature of Welshman Christian Malcolm and for endurance fans, Botswana's Nijel Amos, the second ranked athlete in the world this year over 800m behind Kenya's David Rudisha.
The event is planned to capture the Olympic fever that will be building in anticipation of the start of the Games, and is well placed in the athletics calendar - just days after the Aviva London Grand Prix.
The meeting - which has £17,000 worth of prize money on offer for the international events - also includes an under-20 international pre-meeting, featuring the best of up and coming talent.
See www.welshathletics.org for more information including prize structure details and timetable (timetable as of June 18).
