Weekend update includes world lead for Laura Muir

Laura Muir ran the fastest time in the world over 1500m to win the prestigious ISTAF athletics meeting in Berlin with Laura Weightman running a PB in second place. Other great middle distance performances were seen in Poland whilst Kew gardens hosted the biggest event yet since lockdown wtih almost 2000 finishers on Saturday and 1600 on Sunday.

Laura Muir (handicap -3.3) recorded a world-leading time of 3: 57.40 over 1500m at the ISTAF Berlin meeting to claim her fifth straight victory during the 2020 summer season. The Scottish star finished clear of GB teammate Laura Weightman (handicap -3.2), who ran a PB of 4:00.09. This takes the 27 year-old to three successive sub-four-minute 1500m races.

 Aimee Pratt (handicap -0.9), and Rosie Clarke (handicap -0.9), finished in the top five in the women's 3,000m steeplechase with 9:32.50 and 9:32.90 respectively.

Piers Copeland  (handicap -6.3), won the 1500m at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in 3:37.51. Recent British 1500m winner George Mills (handicap -5.9), hit a very respectable PB of 3:38.06 in a field that included Poland's finest athletes, Marcin Lewandowski and  Adam Kzscot. Alex Bell (handicap -2.0) again showed her great talent with a win in the 800m in 2:01.60, ahead of Adelle Tracey  (handicap -2.1) in 2:01.71.

The Kew Gardens 10k took place this weekend where the organisers used both Saturday and Sunday to hold a 10k race. A total of 3513 runners enjoyed the course in the beautiful botanical park in London. Fastest over this weekend was U23 London runner Seyfu Jamaal (handicap -5.1) in  30:14 and Daniel Mulryan  (handicap -4.0) turned in a respectable 30:51 with  Callum Rowlinson (handicap -4.5) running 31:12. The women’s field was graced by Tracy Barlow (handicap -0.3) who was fastest with 34:54 and Alison Lavender (handicap 0.3) hit a time of 35:15.

The Antrim Coast Half Marathon was the event of the week on the roads with Sir Mo Farah supporting the sterling work of his former championship  team mate James McIlroy who organised this elite only race from his home in Larne, Northern Ireland.  Full report on this link includes the top three times that were sub 61 minutes and WAVA age adjusted  top times of 57:47 and 59:22.
