Weekend update
It was another busy weekend across the UK with some quality track racing and a return to winning ways for Charlie Hulson in Wrexham, where he had one of his biggest winning margins ever of over three minutes!
Charlie Hulson (handicap -4.5) has been resettling near to his North Wales origins and chose the Helena Tipping 10k to set a marker as he embarks on his autumn plans. He was well ahead of the chasers as he clocked 29:59, with second position coming in at 33:00. Claire Martin (handicap 2.8) was the women’s winner in 36:57.
On a hot Summer's night in Milton Keynes, the English 5000m championships hosted a busy day of 5000m racing, confirming that strength in depth is returning to the distance running community. In an evening of PBs it was Ben Bradley (handicap -4.5) who emerged victorious with a 13:57.33 win. It was a slightly more predictable affair in the women’s race with Jess Judd (handicap -1.9) using her strength to pull away for a comfortable 15:37.88 win ahead of Louise Small (handicap -1.0) and Nicole Taylor (handicap -0.3).
In Nottingham, the 5000m Track Challenge winners were of a similar standard with Mohamud Aadan (handicap -5.3) and Naomi Taschimowitz (handicap -0.1) the overall winners in 13:56 and 16:06 respectively. Jon Hopkins (handicap -4.2) ran an impressive PB for second place in 13:57.
At the CAU and England Championships in Manchester, the Mile event saw an impressive turn of speed as George Mills (handicap -5.7) closed in the final 800m with 1:55 after an opening 809 metres of 2:14. He surged ahead ahead of Jonny Davies (handicap -5.5) who initiated the final push and the previous day’s steeplechase champion, Tommy Horton (handicap -3.7) to win in 4:09.
