Weekend update

The British Indoor Championships produced many predicted outcomes of high quality. The European championships in Turkey will be the target for many of the podium athletes. In Spain, Tom Anderson and Clara Evans ran impressive marathon times.
The women’s 3000m saw Melissa Courtney-Bryant (handicap -1.9) and Hannah Nuttall (handicap -1.4) take the top places with 8:50.76 and 8:50.85. Both with qualifying times already registered will expect to be selected.
James West (handicap -5.3) who has shown great form in the States won the men's 3000m with 7:49.78 ahead of youngsters, Osian Perrin (handicap -4.8) and Charles Wheeler (handicap -5.9) who ran 7:50.86 and 7:51.80 respectively.
Pre race favourites, Neil Gourley (handicap -6.6) and Ellie Baker (handicap -1.4) won the 1500m trials to book their places in the GB team for Istanbul.
Baker ran 4:06.73 for a Championship Record, previously held by Zola Budd in 1986. Katie Snowden (handicap -2.2) secured a team spot in second place. Gourley won the men’s race with a last lap surge in 3:41.20 ahead of George Mills’s (handicap -6.0) 3:42.87.
Isabelle Boffey (handicap -1.1) won the women’s 800m in 2:03.27 and Guy Learmonth (handicap -5.7) was triumphant with 1:47.43 in the men’s event. Missing from the Birmingham event was Keely Hodgkinson (handicap -2.2) who at Lievin in France last week ran a cracking 1:57.71.
At the Seville Marathon, Tom Anderson (handicap -5.5) was in great form with 2:12:05 clocking. Calum Johnson (handicap -6.3) ran 2:13:28 and Welsh star, Clara Evans (handicap -0.7) ran a great 2:29:27.
Jonny Collier (handicap -2.8) ran 64:37 and Ann Marie McGlynn (handicap -0.8) 72:33 were the fastest UK based runners at the Barcelona Half Marathon.
