Weekend update
Laura Muir, Josh Kerr and Neil Gourley went to the top of the runbritain UK rankings this weekend over the mile and 3000m. Henry McCluckie had a breakthrough win at the International Armagh 5k with Alex Bell sealing a win in the women’s classy 3k on Thursday evening.
At the Millrose Games in New York, Laura Muir (handicap -2.2) secured a big win in the Wanamaker Mile as she ran 4:20.15, and there was also a victory and a Scottish indoor record for Olympic medallist Josh Kerr (handicap -6.0) in the men’s 3000m.
As Muir secured her second win in the USA this month, Katie Snowden (handicap -1.5) was the next British finisher in the mile race, and she recorded a personal best of 4:21.19 – an English indoor record – for third place.
Revising his career best for the 3000m, Kerr secured a time of 7:33.47 on his way to top spot in the men’s 3000m, just finishing ahead of Guatemala’s Luis Grijalva. His time was also four seconds quicker than the previous Scottish indoor best set by Andrew Butchart.
In the men’s mile, Neil Gourley (handicap -6.0) continued his excellent indoor season form as he clocked a lifetime best with a time of 3:49.46 to secure second place behind Yared Nuguse (USA).
In the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Sarah Inglis (handicap -2.2) became only the second British athlete after Laura Muir to run sub 15 minutes over 5000m indoors. At the meeting in Boston, the Scottish athlete recorded a time of 14:59.65 which was also an outright PB. Thomas George (handicap -0.9) ran a respectable breakthrough PB of 13:32.81 over 5000m.
The Armagh Road Races again delivered the highest quality in UK road racing across all age groups on Thursday evening. Henry McCluckie (handicap -4.9) was the winner of the Armagh International 5km held around the 1km loop at the Mall in Armagh City.
McCluckie ran an awesome 13:37 with Jacob Allen (handicap -5.9) hitting a PB of 13:47 in fifth place one second ahead of Ben MacMillan’s (handicap -5.6) 13:48. Andrew Milligan (handicap -5.7) from Belfast returned a quality 13:51.
Winning the women’s 3km in 9:02 was Olympic 800m finalist, Alex Bell (handicap -1.2). In second were Welsh international, Cari Hughes (handicap -0.3) with 9:03 and Calli Thackery (handicap -2.4) was third in 9:12. Fionnuala Ross (handicap -0.9) of Armagh AC was seventh in 9:14 and Grace Carson (handicap -1.9)of Mid-Ulster AC ninth in 9:16.
At theTaipei 24-Hour event, Jo Zakrzewski (handicap 4.1) set a new World 48 Hour Record at the Taipei 24-Hour event, with a final distance of 411.458km/255.66 8miles. She achieved the total by running 654 times around a 0.6282 km lap of Huabo Freshman Park in the Taiwanese capital.
