Weekend update
While our best 50k runners were picking up gold in Spain, it was the National Club Relays in Birmingham that took centre stage for many. In the Chicago marathon, Sarah Inglis ran a PB whilst Jacob Adkin was winning a World Cup vertical kilometre race in Italy.
At the ERRA 6 & 4 Stage Relays, Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, Aldershot, Farnham and District claimed the senior men’s six stage title by the narrowest of margins as they edged out Leeds by five seconds. Jack Rowe (handicap -6.4) anchored the team to victory, also clocking the fastest leg of the day, with his time of 16:39.
Joshua Grace (handicap -4.7), Will Barnicoat (handicap -4.5), Ricky Harvie (handicap -4.7), Ben Bradley (handicap -4.1) and Sam Eglen (handicap -4.4) ran the earlier legs for AFDt who took the victory.
Leeds City claimed second place with Cambridge and Coleridge in a clear third place overall in the men’s 6 stage contest.
Tonbridge claimed team victory in the senior women’s 4 stage. Lucy Reid (handicap -0.1) took the team up from third to first on the final leg to overhaul Salford Harriers and Aldershot, Farnham and District who claimed second and third overall.
Lucy Thompson (handicap 3.2), Phoebe Barker (handicap 3.8) and Nicole Taylor (handicap 0.7) preceded Reid’s leg and set her up well for a tilt at the ERRA crown on the final leg.
Amelia Quirk (handicap 0.6) produced the fastest leg of the day in the senior women’s race with a time of 13:35. Results
At the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Sarah Inglis (handicap -2.9) improved her marathon PB to 2:29:37 as she finished in the top ten. She crossed the line in ninth position and she took four seconds off her previous best set in 2020.
At the Chiavenna-Lagunc Vertical Kilometre Jacob Adkin (handicap 1.2) earned a superb victory at the final race of the 2022 Valsir Mountain Running World Cup.
The Briton, who has recently been selected to compete for GB & NI at next month’s World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Thailand, produced a fantastic performance to win the gruelling race ahead of Italy’s Matteo Eydallin and Henri Aymonod.
In the women’s race, Scout Adkin (handicap 1.1) won the battle with Italy’s Elisa Sortini to claim second place in the race behind Andrea Mayr. Results and WMRA report
