Weekend update
The weekend saw personal bests and qualifying times and a W40 runner, from Northern Ireland, finishing in the top position at the Asics London10k whilst the fastest parkrun was in Strathclyde
The Milton Keynes SOAR MK5000 PB Special was one of the best weekend races with nine men going under 14 minutes. Local man, Charlie Wheeler (handicap -5.9) ran a blistering PB of 13:38.67 to win in a stadium record. Cameron Allan (handicap -5.5) was second, running 13:42.23 ahead of Jacob Allen (handicap -5.6) with 13:46.17. Georgie Grgec (handicap 0.1) took the women’s race in 15:51.54. ahead of Elle Twentyman (handicap -0.2) with 15:58.39 with Jennifer Walsh (handicap -1.0) also going sub-16 in 15:59.70.
The Asics London 10k had good conditions with Andy Heyes (handicap -5.9) winning in 29:02. Dewi Griffiths (handicap -5.4) was second in 29:16 well ahead of Daniel Jarvis (handicap -5.2) in 30:26. Northern Ireland’s W40 Olympian Kerry O’Flaherty (handicap 0.6) clocked 35:09 to win the women’s event ahead of Anya Culling (handicap 3.0) in 35:25.
At the Wilmslow 10k, Lily Partridge (handicap -0.3), (picture from a previous race) won in 33:48 ahead of Eleanor Bolton (handicap -1.4) who ran 34:30. Nigel Martin (handicap -6.1) was the overall winner with 30:27, 180 metres ahead of Tommy Power (handicap -3.1) .
At the University of Birmingham Track & Field Festival, Will Barnicoat (handicap -5.0) improved his personal best and ran inside the qualifying standard for the World Athletics U20 championships with a time of 8:06.76 over 3000m. It was the first time he has run under the standard of 8:10 after coming close at the Loughborough International earlier this year. The headline Monterrain Mile saw seven going under the magical four minute barrier. Ian Crowe-Wright (handicap -5.8) won in 3:57.96 from Ben MacMillan (handicap -5.6) and Scott Beattie (handicap -6.2) who ran 3:58.30 and 3:58.61 respectively. The Monterrain Fifteen was won by Sabrina Sinha (handicap -1.1) in a new 1500m PB of 4:12.80 ahead of Alexandra Millard (handicap -1.0) with 4:13.98 and steeplechaser, Maisie Grice (handicap 0.8) in 4:17.99.
The fastest parkrun in the UK came from Daryl Reid (handicap -4.1) with 14:53 in the Strathclyde parkrun. The top woman’s time came from Nicole Allan (handicap 3.7) at the Worthing parkrun with 16:57.
