Weekend update

There were plenty of quality results over the weekend with Calli Thackery the pick of the performances with a World Championship qualifying time over 5000m at the Watford BMC races. Ben Pattison also ran a Eugene qualifying time with a PB over 800m and Sarah Inglis did likewise over 5000m.
At the much awaited BMC Grand Prix in Watford, Calli Thackery (handicap -1.0) ran inside the world championships 5000m qualifying standard for the second time this season after a sterling performance. It was a race she dominated as she won by over 16 seconds in the end, clocking 15:06.26. Samantha Harrison (handicap -2.8) was the next across the line and she achieved a European qualifying standard with a time of 15:22.29.
A trio of athletes claimed World U20 Championships qualifying times. Ethan Hussey (handicap -2.2) did so in the men’s 800m with 1:47.88. Osian Perrin (handicap -5.2) and Johnny Livingstone (handicap -4.9) were both inside the men’s 5000m standard with times of 13:49.26 and 13:51.03 respectively.
At the Sollentuna GP, Ben Pattison (handicap -6.3) moved inside the World qualifying standard in the men’s 800m in Sweden, clocking a personal best of 1:45.16 to take the top prize ahead of Daniel Rowden (handicap -5.6) who was third in 1:45.84. Matthew Stonier (handicap -6.2) ran a solid 3:38.60, just 0.14 ahead of Elliot Giles (handicap -6.3) over 1500m.
The Portland Track Festival was again a hotspot for British talent.Sarah Inglis (handicap -2.0) smashed her personal best as she ran inside the World Championships qualifying standard for the first time. Competing on the track where the worlds will be taking place in July, she ran a time of 15:05.51 to go third in the 2022 UK rankings. Patrick Dever (handicap -6.0) and Marc Scott (handicap -6.6) were both inside the European championships qualifying standards in separate 5000m races. Dever ran 13:20.12 and Scott posted 13:22.15.
At the world class NCAA Division I Championships, Elise Thorner (handicap -0.3) finished fifth in the women’s 3000m steeplechase after crossing the line in a time of 9:33.99. Charlotte Dannatt (handicap -0.1) posted 33:26.78 and Charles Hicks (handicap -6.7) 28:17.88 over 10 000m.
The Gouden Spike meeting in Leiden, Netherlands saw Sam Atkin (handicap -6.6) narrowly outside the world 10,000m standard with a time of 27:33.52 as he won the race. He was inside the European standard once again as was Jake Smith (handicap -5.8) with his time of 28:14.10.
At the Swansea Half Marathon, a new course record was set by Omar Ahmed (handicap -5.9) after a quality battle with Phil Sesemann (handicap -6.0), running 64:01 to the second placed time of 64:09. In the women’s event, Natasha Cockram (handicap -1.8) stormed in with 72:48, ahead of Naomi Mitchell’s (handicap -1.3) 75:11.
At the Roon the Toon 10k (Scottish Championships), Annabel Simpson (handicap -1.5) ran 33:22 taking 18 seconds off her PB in the process. Sean Chalmers (handicap -5.1) posted 29:58 for an overall win ahead of James Donald (handicap -5.4) with 30:05.
Fastest in the parkruns were Lily Partridge (handicap -0.4) with16:57at Alvaston and Jonathan Cornish (handicap -4.5) running14:53 at the ever popular Bushy parkrun.
