Weekend update
Many top distance runners were at the Sound Running Track Meeting in Caifornia and at the Twilight Meeting in Portland, Oregon. The Scottish 5k road championship saw home favourites taking the honours in respectable times and the fastest parkruns were centrally located on reliable fast courses.
At the Sound Running Track Meeting – World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze in San Juan Capistrano on the West coast of America, Katie Snowden (handicap 0.4) secured a World Athletics Championships qualifying standard in the women’s 1500m with a time of 4:03.90, while Adelle Tracey (handicap -1.5) was closely behind in 4:05.50 which was inside the European standard and a PB.
2019 world 1500m finalist Neil Gourley (handicap -6.1) was triumphant in the men’s 1500m as he won in a time of 3:38.11, with Olympic finalist Jake Heyward (handicap -4.7) third in 3:38.55. Jamaine Coleman (handicap -5.3) ran an impressive 3:39.37 too.
Jake Wightman (handicap -5.2), was an 800m winner in 1:46.44, well ahead of Kyle Langford’s (handicap -5.4), 1:49.16 and 2nd 800m of the weekend.
There were also European standard for Patrick Dever (handicap -5.7) in the men’s 5000m with a time of 13:20.59, and Sarah Inglis (handicap -1.6) managed a similar feat in the women’s 5000m as she crossed the line in 15:16.90. That was a PB for Inglis, and Jenny Nesbitt (handicap -2.0), just behind in 15:17.39, improved her best with that time. Luke Caldwell (handicap -2.2), showed his marathon preparations are well on track witha 10 000m run of 28:18.13.
In the Oregon Twilight Meeting, over 1500m James Gormley (handicap -4.9) continues to look promising with another 3:41.81 performance. In the Women’s 1500m, Elizabeth Bird (handicap 1.6) won in 4:15.02.
At the Scottish 5km Champs held at the Sri Chinmoy 5k, Jonny Glen (handicap -5.2), won in 14:26, just ahead of Christian Graham (handicap -5.0), and Alastair Hay (handicap -4.5), who both clocked 14:28. The women’s race saw Annabel Simpson (handicap -0.9) winning Scottish gold in 16:28, followed by Sarah Calvert (handicap 2.2) in 16:43 and Naomi Lang (handicap 0.6) in 16:49.
The Sunderland City 5k had Carl Avery (handicap -4.6) winning in 14:25, with Tommy Power (handicap -2.2) 14:26 holding off Jamie Hall (handicap -3.9) in 14:28. The women’s winner was Danielle Hodgkinson (handicap 0.7) in 16:02 ahead of Phillipa Stone (handicap -0.5) with 16:10 and Gemma Hillier-Moses (handicap 0.6) posting 16:42.
Andy Heyes (handicap -6.2) ran the Roberts parkrun with a 15:01 to top the men’s rankings. Gemma Steel (handicap -0.3) is gradually returning to some of her best form, ran a quality16:39 at Watermead County parkrun on the back of a recent 34:17 over 10K.
