Weekend update
The weekend highlight was Marc Scott’s British indoor 5000m record in Boston, USA, that dipped below 13 minutes. There were world class performances for Jenny Nesbitt, Sam Atkin and Eilish McColgan too.
At the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Marc Scott (handicap -6.9) smashed the British and European Indoor Records over 5000m with 12:57.08, He was chased by Sam Atkin (handicap -5.5) who posted 13:03.64 that now takes him to fourth on the runbritain all-time list. Grant Fisher was the impressive winner in 12:53.73.
Jenny Nesbitt (handicap -1.9) ran a Welsh record over 5000m race with 15:19.22 and takes her to third all-time on the runbritain UK indoor list. Roisin Flanagan (handicap -0.9) was next with a 15:36 clocking. Neil Gourley (handicap -5.4) ran an impressive PB of 3:35.32 over 1500m. Charlie Da'Vall Grice (handicap -5.4) posted a World Indoor qualifier for 1500m with 3:38.00.
Eilish McColgan (handicap -3.7) was in fine form over in the warmth of Dubai running a Personal best of 14:48 that matches Paula Ratcliffe’s best for the distance. McColgan has her eye over the 21k next week at the RAK Half Marathon.
On Friday in Battersea Park the PUL5k lit up the night with massive in depth performances from both men and women. Quality conditions enabled Jack Rowe (handicap -6.8) to post a fast 13:42. Michael Ward (handicap -4.4) in 13:54 was second just ahead of Alex Leprêtre (handicap -5.4) 13:55.
The women’s event in Battersea Park was also impressive with Allie Kieffer running a lifetime best to win in 15:52. Charlotte Arter (handicap -2.0) was second in 15:56, with Cari Hughes (handicap -0.0) posting an impressive debut of 15:57 and Beth Kidger (handicap -0.8) with the same time.
James Young (handicap -4.5) was impressive at the Music City Challenge in Tennessee with a PB of 3:55.20 over a mile. Katy-Ann McDonald (handicap 0.4) ran a 2:03 800m. James West (handicap -5.0) ran a PB of 7:44.73 at the Badgers Windy City Invite in Chicago. Scott Beattie (handicap -5.7) was moving well with a 7:49.35 clocking in the same race.
On the big indoor track in Washington at the Lilac Grand Prix, Jake Heyward (handicap -5.5) ran 7:48.83 over 3000m to set a Welsh Record. And Josh Kerr (handicap -5.6) set an indoor best over 800m with 1:46.64 at the same meeting. Scarlet Dale (handicap -2.7) posted a 9:13 3000m performance and James Gormley (handicap -3.3) returned to racing with a 4:00.4 mile performance.
Paul Pollock (handicap -5.1) with 14:24 was the fastest weekend parkrunner at Belfast’s Victoria parkrun. At the Poole parkrun, Emma Styles (handicap 0.4) produced the fastest weekend parkrun time from a woman with 16:58.
