Weekend update

At the Cardiff Met indoor Christmas Classic Jenny Nesbitt followed up her top 10 run at the European Cross country championships with her best track performance by running a Welsh all comers record over 3000m. There were some fast 5 mile road times in London and a world masters record from a Scottish 800m icon from the 1980s too.
The women’s 3000m saw Jenny Nesbitt (handicap -1.6) run 8:44.92 which was the fastest ever seen in Wales from a woman. The performance takes her to ninth on the British all-time indoor list.
The men’s 3000m also saw some great early season from Piers Copeland (handicap -5.8) who won, in 7:59.51 and U20 runner Osian Perrin (handicap -4.5) turned in an impressive in 8:01.20. James Heneghan (handicap -4.9) was next with 8:04.34 and steeplechaser Dan Jarvis (handicap -6.0) was looking good for Christmas with 8:06.86.
The Friday Under the Lights 5 mile event in Battersea saw more top performances with Mahamed Mahamed (handicap -6.1) winning in 23:20 ahead of Liam Dee (handicap -5.8) in 23:24 and Matt Bergin (handicap -4.3) with 23:42.
Lucy Reid (handicap -0.2) was the women’s winner in 26:26 ahead of Nicole Taylor (handicap -1.1) who ran 26:30. Tessa McCormick (handicap 0.3) clocked 27:11 for third place.
Elsewhere there was a great 800m run from M65 runner Paul Forbes (handicap 3.2) who has a best of 1:45.66 set in 1983, Forbes ran an M65 world indoor record of 2:15.30 at the Glasgow AA Yuletide Open Graded Meeting.
On a challenging course around Saltwell Park in Gateshead with 150 metres of climbing, cross-country champion Calum Johnson (handicap -6.3) won the Saltwell 10km, in a time of 30:09.Alyson Dixon (handicap 0.3) was the women’s winner in 37:02 ahead of Amy Fuller (handicap 3.1) with 37:45 and Justina Heslop (handicap 2.3) in 37:57.
