Weekend update

There were some great international performances on the mountains of Italy and on the track in Pheonix, Arizona that saw a new 1 hour UK record for women with a distance of 17.044 km.
At the Val Bregaglia Trail in Chiavenna, Italy, Scotland’s Scout Adkin (handicap 0.5) finished second to Italy’s Francesca Ghelfi in the women’s race at the WMRC Nations Cup event. England’s Kate Maltby (handicap 0.5) was fifth with her compatriot Caroline Lambert (handicap 0.4) in sixth position. England’s team won the women’s event overall, with Kirsteen Welch (handicap 1.0) making it three inside the top ten. Pictured is the stunning trophy that has a gold base and a mirror set in crystal. In the men’s race, England’s Chris Richards (handicap -3.9) was fifth overall in a race won by Filimon Abraham (GER). Max Nicholls (handicap -5.0) was 10th and the England team took 2nd place overall.

Over in the USA at the Hoka One Hour Run in Phoenix, Alice Wright (handicap 1.1) set a UK one-hour track record, revising the previous best set by Michaela McCallum twenty-one years ago.
Wright, who finished sixth over 10,000m for Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the 2018 European Championships, covered 17,044m in one hour.
