Weekend update
There were many top drawer performances on a weekend that saw the National Road Relays in Birmingham’s Sutton Park and the return of the hugely popular Manchester Marathon that saw wins for Matthew Crehan and Anne Bracegirdle. Lauren Heyes continues her comeback with the fastest female parkrun while the fastest man was Luke Duffy.
The National Road Relays in Birmingham saw Aldershot dominate proceedings with a golden double of winning the men and women double team events! Nicole Taylor (handicap -1.1) from Tonbridge was the fastest woman with 13:56 for the 4.3km leg while Jack Rowe (handicap -6.9) added another gold for Aldershot with the fastest individual time of 16:33 over the final 5.8k leg.
Matthew Crehan (handicap -4.4) has been promising a quality marathon performance for a few years and in the Manchester Marathon he pulled off a stunning PB win to take the title in 2:18:26. James Donald (handicap -4.9) ran 2:20:36 in second place and local man David Barratt (handicap -5.1) took the bronze medal with 2:22:22
Anna Bracegirdle (handicap 0.0) was delighted to win the women’s race in a PB of 2:40:17. Heather Townsend (handicap 2.1) was next in 2:44:29 ahead of Irish woman Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill with 2:46:22 in third.
The ManchesterHalf Marathon saw Ciaran Lewis (handicap -4.4) win overall in 66:10 ahead of top master Paul Martelletti (handicap -5.8) who ran 67:01 with middle distance man Mohammed Salah (handicap -4.4) running 67:34. Local debutant, Mollie Williams (handicap 0.3) was in winning form over the 21k distance with 75:46 ahead of Breege Connolly (handicap -0.1) with 76:30.
The UK parkruns are returning to full swing and the fastest man was Luke Duffy (handicap -5.1) with 14:51at the Storeys Field parkrun. Lauren Heyes (handicap -1.0) was in sub 17 form, with 16:57 to place second overall in the Roberts Park parkrun.
