Weekend update

There were exciting  performances from the GB & NI team at the IAAF World Championships in Doha with top 8 results from Callum Hawkins (Marathon), Jake Wightman (1500), Laura Muir (1500) Josh Kerr (1500) and Laura Weightman (5000) placing 4th, 5th, 5th,  6th and 7th respectively. Meanwhile, conditions were perfect for world class performances at the Cardiff Half Marathon  with winning times of 59:29 and 68:20 for men and women. 

 

The World Athletics Championships resulted in fast times on the air conditioned track with UK athletes impressing the crowds. Full reports are on the British Athletics website here. Callum Hawkins (handicap-6.8), Jake Wightman (handicap -6.5), Laura Muir (handicap -2.7) Josh Kerr (handicap -6.1) and Laura Weightman (handicap -2.9) finished 4th, 5th,  5th, 6th and 7th in their respective events after Dina Asher-Smith's  sprint win.  

In the Cardiff Half Marathon conditions were tranquil and it was Leonard Lagat who took the win in 59:29. Mo Aadan (handicap -6.5), was the first British male running 64:15 for 11th ahead of Peter Le Grice  (handicap -5.2), with 64:20. Just one place behind Le Grice was Charlie Hulson (handicap -4.8), in 64:28 who has been moving up in distances this winter.

Kenya’s Lucy Cheruiyot was first in 68:20 with the Jenny Spink (handicap 0.0) coming claiming first UK runner in 73:26.
