We have looked at the top 10 male and female performances on the road, from the last 7 days based on the handicap score for last week's performances. To calculate this we have taken the basic handicap score for the performance on the day and the SSS score which rates how difficult it was to run a quick time on the day and arrived at the net score which is the basic minus the SSS. This weekend's wet and windy conditions have taken most SSS scores close to or over 1.0. Most of the top performances, this week, came from the second race in the runbritain Grand Prix - the Bristol 10k where the SSS was 0.9 indicating that the times could have been almost a minute slower than they might have been in better conditions.
The table below also shows the actual handicap score, which also factors in their previous performances and regular racing.

Meanwhile, on the track, the Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m pbs saw many athletes reduce their handicap scores quite considerably. Andy Vernon (handicap -6.5) ran his 10,000 in 28:56.59 in an SSS of 1.1, suggesting a full minute slower than it would have been in perfect conditions. This took his handicap score down very slightly. He is now just 0.085 behind Mo Farah (handicap 6.6) on the National Ladder. Their actual scores are: Mo -6.577, Andy -6.492. The women's race was won by Jo Pavey (handicap 3.4) in 32:11.04.
Have you checked whether your handicap score has gone up, down or stayed the same after your run this weekend?
