We have looked at the top 10 male and female performances from the last 7 days based on the handicap score for last week's performances. To calculate this we have taken the basic handicap score for the performance on the day and the SSS score which rates how difficult it was to run a quick time on the day and arrived at the net score which is the basic minus the SSS.
The table below also shows the actual handicap score, which also factors in their previous performances and regular racing.
The Trafford 10k produced the best performances of this weekend with six of the best women's performances and five of the best men's coming from that event. The Inverness Half Marathon also produced strong performances with three of the top ten in the women's field.
Helen Clitheroe put in a very strong performance to win the Trafford 10k and Sonia Samuels was within 10 seconds of her as she ran her fastest 10k ever.
Nicola Duncan (Portobello Running Club) showed her class by winning the women’s prize at Inverness when finishing ninth overall in a time of 1:13:28, which is just seven secs outside the course record set by Kenya’s Cathy Mutwa in 2007. The Edinburgh-based athlete, who is to represent her native Ireland in the world half marathon championships at the end of the month, was delighted with her performance, which is her second quickest time for the distance.
She said: “I am very pleased as that is my second fastest half marathon time and the quickest I have done in the UK. My fastest was in Barcelonalast month, but that was on a flat course and the weather was warmer than here. I found the wind quite tough on a few stretches today but it’s a great course, everything was very well organised and I really enjoyed it.”
Great Britain international Hayley Haining (Kilbarchan AAC) pulled out of the Inverness race shortly beyond the 10 mile point leaving the way clear for her clubmate Gemma Rankin to come through to take second position in 1:16:44. Jennifer Emsley (Central AC) improved her personal best time by 90secs to take third position in 1:16:59
