Bushy Park parkrun 5K Event 467 - 1,007 finishers
Larne Half Marathon - 881 finishers
Yateley 10K Series - 730 finisers
Polaroid Vale of Leven 10K - 712 finishers
Karrimor Great Trail Challenge 11K - 700 finishers
The Blaydon Race took place yesterday in glorious sunshine. This historic event takes place on 9 June every year in keeping with the 1862 Blaydon Races song, Aa went to Blaydon Races t'was on the Ninth of June. This means that the race is rarely at the weekend and so this year's race was more popular than ever. The race was won by Boniface Kiprop whose time of 26:26 gave him a handicap score of MINUS 3.6 and the first woman was Perendis Lekapana. The race was certainly fast and furious at the front of the field but was also enjoyed by thousands running for charity, for fun and some in fancy dress.
Meanwhile, the Karrimor Great Trail Challenge was being enjoyed on the otherside of the Pennines on the trails and hills around Keswick in the lake district. This event also encouraged both elite and recreational runners. It incorporated a home countries international race. Steve Vernon was representing England and came home first in the 11k event whilst his club mate, James Scott-Buccleuch was first over the line in the 'non-elite' race. Jo Kent was the first woman to finish the mass 11k and Emma Clayton was first in the elite 10k.
In the 22k event Mike Jefferies led the field home and Marie Atkins was the first woman.
This event also invited some of the best off-road juniors to represent their country. Georgia Malir of England won the Under 20 women's event and Nathan Jones of Wales won the Under 20 men's.
