Now in its third year, the Plymouth 10k attracted 30% more entries than last year from runners of all standards running for many different causes, some in fancy dress, entertaining the spectators and others set on running a good time and getting their runbritain handicap score down. Both the men's and women's winners maintained their handicap scores on this course that was given an SSS score of 0.6.
Emma Stepto (handicap MINUS 0.6) from Cornwall finished a magnificent 7th overall and first female. Her time of 35:04 was a minute outside her best time that was run in Exeter in the summer on a course that was also given an SSS of 0.6 but after running 2:35:02 at the TCS Amsterdam Marathon only two weeks ago it is fair to say that those 26 miles are probably still in her legs.
Johnny Gilby (handicap MINUS 1.7), from Derby was first overall across the line. His time of 31:38 was 17 seconds faster than his 10k at the Torbay Royal Regatta 10k in August. Unlike Emma, his recent racing has been sparse and 10k is the longest distance that he has raced over this year.
