The organisers of the 2018 Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon, OSB Events, have issued a statement regarding the weather ahead of this weekend’s event on Sunday 4th March.

With cold temperatures and snow forecast across much of the country during the coming week, runners are being asked to keep up-to-date with event information through social media channels and the race website. They should also read any emails from the race when they receive them.

The weather situation is being very closely monitored each day and OSB Events are taking every precaution to ensure runners’ safety ahead of the city’s seventh annual half marathon.

Some 9,000 runners are expected to fill the streets of Cambridge on Sunday and this year’s event is set to be the biggest yet, with general entries selling out within hours of the race opening.

Runners should take normal precautions for running in wintery conditions and dress appropriately.

Thousands of spectators are also expected to turn out to support this popular spring race and they too are advised to wrap up warmly, bring along any extra layers and be fully prepared for the weather conditions.

All those planning to come to the event should keep an eye on travel reports and may need to allow extra time for their journey.

Race Director Adam Moffat commented: “We would like to assure everyone that we are working closely with Cambridge City and Cambridgeshire County Councils to ensure that the 2018 Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon goes ahead this Sunday. Runners will have seen the weather reports and be very aware of the impending bad weather this coming week. We are receiving detailed daily weather reports so that we are able to make decisions based on the most accurate information available. All decisions will be based entirely on the safety of runners as this is our absolute priority.

“We ask competitors and spectators to make sure they dress appropriately for the weather conditions. We will be issuing regular updates via email, our website and social media channels, and we would appreciate everyone keeping up-to-date with information as it comes through.”

The 2018 Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon starts at 09:30 on Sunday 4th March from Midsummer Common. The one-lap, 13.1-mile route gives runners a spectacular whistle-stop tour of Cambridge, passing by The Backs and King’s College before taking runners through picturesque Grantchester, Market Square and the Round Church.
