Two tangoed on Dartmoor for charity

Guinness World Record holder, Adam Holland, the fastest man to complete 10 marathons over 10 consecutive days, will return to Brathay between the 9th and 18th May to complete the Brathay 10in10 for the third time. So you’d expect him to be out running quite a lot at the moment. What you might not expect is for him to be out running a 10 mile race across Dartmoor against a horse!

Yet that’s exactly what he did this weekend. Adam’s running nickname is Tango, and he was inspired to take the challenge when he realised that he shares the same name as friend Kate Melville’s rescue horse, Tango. The race was held to raise valuable funds for Brathay’s work with vulnerable young people.

The course took in moorland, bridleways and lanes in Tavistock, which is why Adam (who came home in a time of 1 hour and 52 minutes) thinks he was able to beat Tango and Kate by eight minutes: “I think I had an advantage on the hills, I’m a very good downhill runner but Tango had to walk down the hills. It was good fun. I know Kate enjoyed it too.”

Brathay CEO Godfrey Owen thanked Adam and Kate, “It’s amazing what people are willing to do in support of our work. Adam and Kate’s idea has captured imaginations and headlines and we can’t thank them enough. Of course, what makes the fundraiser even more special is the involvement Tango the horse - who has overcome a very rough start in life thanks to Kate, and is now taking on challenges that will help us to give young people in the UK a chance to change their lives.”
