Time to get the #EalingFeeling – virtually!

Ealing double medal

The organisers of the award-winning Ealing Half Marathon have announced two virtual challenges to take place this September, which are open to everyone. They will be the Queen of the Suburbs and the 13.1 challenge with medals being awarded for each event.

13.1 Challenge – this challenge can be done anywhere in the world. Anyone can run, jog or walk 13.1 miles between Monday 21 and Sunday 27 September 2020 and will receive the “13.1 Challenge” medal.

The Queen of the Suburbs Challenge – run, jog or walk in 13 designated Ealing parks. Runners have the whole of September to complete the challenge and after completion they will receive the “Queen of the Suburbs” medal.

Each challenge costs £12.50 plus processing fee to take part in, or anyone wanting to take on both challenges pays just £22 (plus processing fee) and receives both medals which fit together to form a ‘double medal’.

Weekly prizes can be won by sharing pictures of the virtual challenge adventures on social media throughout September, using the hashtags #EalingFeeling and #EalingHalf2020 .

Ealing Half Marathon 2020 was cancelled in June amidst the ongoing and unpredictable situation in regards to COVID-19, with all Ealing Half Marathon entries automatically transferred to the 2021 event on Sunday 26th September.

Set up as a legacy to London’s Olympic Games, Ealing Half Marathon is a big favourite among the running community. EHM Legacy Community Interest Company (CIC) is the community arm of the race, with a commitment to provide sport and fitness for all by engaging in a range of year round community activities and events. All entries received for Ealing Half Marathon and the 2020 virtual challenges will help to invest in initiatives and community projects throughout West London.

The four official race charities for 2020 are Cancer Research UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Macmillan Cancer Support and Meadow House Hospice Ealing.

Sandra Courtney, Race Director, commented: “Following the cancellation of the much loved Ealing Half Marathon this year we are pleased to offer runners two virtual challenges in September. Both challenges are open to everyone, whether you signed up to run Ealing Half Marathon this year or not.

"We will miss seeing everyone on the actual start line in September, but we are looking forward to following everyone’s progress on social media. Let’s continue to spread the #EalingFeeling from near and far! This year is possibly the only year where you can earn your very own Ealing Half Marathon medal without physically travelling to Ealing, so make the most of this opportunity and sign up now! As always, our aim is to raise a surplus which is ploughed back into community projects via EHM LegacyCIC, and we thank everyone for their continued support.”
