Weekend round-up

mass runners under castle inverness

Four half marathons feature in our 'big six' as many runners are honing their preparations for their spring marathons. It was a  busy weekend on the roads of London with over 13,000 finishers going through the Greenwich finish line at the Vitality Big Half.

Sir Mo Farah (handicap -7.3) was a capital winner at the Vitality Big Half on a windy day in London with Dewi Griffiths (handicap -6.7) taking the silver medal in this British Championships event ahead of Chris Thompson (handicap -5.7) who ran 63:41 for overall 5th position.

The women's event saw a ding-dong battle throughout with Charlotte Purdue (handicap -5.7) passing Steph Twell (handicap -5.7) in the latter half of the race. Charlotte Arter (handicap -2.2) finished third. Their repsective times were 70:38,  71:33 and 71:44. See the full report here.

While the views in Inverness were as spectacular as ever (pictured), the weather was less inviting for the 2000+ finishers as reported yesterday.  Liz Abbott (handicap 1.5) and Robbie Simpson (handicap -4.6) were the winners.

At the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Pittsburg, USA, 800m runner Thomas Staines (handicap -3.8) backed up his scintillating 600m and 800m times from earlier this year to clinch the NCAA Division II 800m crown with consummate ease. Winning by over a second in 1.48.64, Staines was a class above the rest, as he now looks to the outdoor season with excitement.
