Sceptics said it couldn’t be done, but back in 1954 Sir Roger Bannister became the first person to run a sub-four-minute mile.
Sixty years on, the mile is firmly back in vogue thanks to the Bupa Westminster Mile, which takes place on Saturday 24 May in central London.
In 2013, thousands of people of all ages and abilities took part in the inaugural Bupa Westminster Mile and the 2014 event looks set to be even bigger and better.
There will be races for everyone – from fun runners and families to elite juniors and seniors and wheelchair users. The series of 30 one-mile races will be held on Saturday 24 May 2014, starting on The Mall and finishing outside Buckingham Palace.
So whether you’re a Bannister wannabe or simply want to run a mile for fun this spring, sign up for this exciting event today and you too can become a part of British mile history.
Race entry is just £8 for adults and £6 for juniors – with a £1 discount for Westminster residents. Children under nine go free.
The Bupa Westminster Mile will also act as the official UK Road Mile Age Group Championship and sponsorship contracts from adidas will be awarded to the winners of the Junior Championship races. Entrants to the Junior Championship events should email Elaine Rayner: [email protected]
