With a record number of runners having taken part in the Brighton Half Marathon on 19 February 2012, the organisers have announced that the 2012 race was also a record breaking year for charity fundraising.

7,427 runners crossed the finish line with a lot of them raising money for one of the official charities which included The Sussex Beacon (Official Charity), WaterAid (Official International Partner Charity), RISE (Official Local Partner Charity) and Pass It On Africa (Official Youth Partner Charity).

The Brighton Half Marathon is organised by, and the main fundraiser for, Brighton based charity The Sussex Beacon, one of only two care centres of its kind in England providing vital care for men and women as well as innovative services to meet the changing needs of people living with HIV.

It has been confirmed that charities raised in excess of £250,000 including £20,000 for The Sussex Beacon Appeal.

Kat Williams, CEO of The Sussex Beacon commented: “I am very proud that the Brighton Half Marathon keeps growing and is now a major event in the fundraising calendar not just for The Sussex Beacon but for lots of other charities too. Over £20,000 has been raised for The Sussex Beacon Appeal this year, which will contribute to keeping our medical Inpatient Unit open.”

Further record breaking facts include the race selling out in record time and a record number of 353 young finishers in the one mile Youth Races.

The Brighton Half Marathon organisers would like to repeat a big thank you to all the sponsors, partners, supporters, volunteers and everyone who took part and contributed to the success of the race.
