Ramathon 2016 - still time to enter!

Ramathon

Ramathon – the Derby Half Marathon – is returning bigger and better for 2016. With only a few weeks to go until entries close on 18th May, there is still time to set your next big goal and get signed up!

Taking place on Sunday 5th June with a start time of 9.30am, the city of Derby will, once again, see thousands of runners taking part in this unique and fast growing half marathon race which will start and finish at the home of the Rams; Derby County’s iPro Stadium. Derby County Football Club is race partner for a second year.

Sponsored by the Derby Runner - specialist running equipment retailer - the Ramathon has an enhanced route for 2016. After leaving the iPro Stadium, the route will go through the city centre and past some of Derby’s key landmarks including the cathedral and the scenic Elvaston Castle Country Park. The course remains flat and many runners will be taking on the Ramathon with a personal best time in mind.

This year the Ramathon will have a World Record Attempt as Lindsy James (handicap 5.2) from Rotherham tries to beat the existing record for the fastest female to complete a half marathon pushing a baby in a pram. And Luke Wigman (handicap 1.7) – former soldier in Afghanistan and now gold-medal winning runner from Nottinghamshire will be officially starting the half marathon race.

In addition to the main race, children and families will compete in the Mini Ramathon, - a 2 mile fun run sponsored by Timms Solicitors.

With a focus on fundraising, thousands of runners will be raising money for a range of important charitable causes including Ramathon’s official charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, Mini Ramathon charity NSPCC and Ramathon Team Run charity Rainbows Hospice, with the aim to smash the overall Ramathon fundraising target of £100,000.

Whether chasing a personal best, attempting a race for the first time, or fundraising for a worthy cause, Ramathon welcomes runners of all abilities whatever the aim.

With live entertainment and thousands of spectators set to line the course, runners will be cheered on to the finish line to receive an official Ramathon medal and finishers’ t-shirt.
