Race entries go live for Snowdonia Marathon Eryri 2012
It is barely three months since the 2011 Snowdonia Marathon Eryri took place, and was hailed as one of the best races ever. However, such is the popularity of marathon running these days that entries for the 2012 event went live on the 1st of January – with the organisers expecting to fill the race in record time.
2012 also sees a milestone in the event’s history with the 30th edition of this world-renowned event taking place on the 27th of October.
Race co-ordinator Jayne Lloyd has been at the head of organsing the race since 2004 and says that the initial entry levels are an indication that the race could well be full before the Spring.
Jayne stated, “The advent of online entry systems has revolutionised the way that events all over the world take entries. Runners were literally sat in front of their computers at midnight on New Years Eve waiting to enter and by the 3rd of January we have received nearly 800 entries.
“We are seen as one of the premier marathons in the UK now, and demand for places is getting higher every year. Last year we were full by April, this year will certainly top that.”
The race limit will be once again 2000 runners, and following the 2011 event feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with many runners calling it best race of the year.
Jayne continues “We are very proud of the feedback that we receive for the race. It’s very good from an entries perspective, as the quicker we fill the race the easier it is for the organising committee to plan the logistics of the race and for us to create our budgets for the event. Additionally, it is great for local business as the hotels and associated businesses can gear-up knowing just how many people they will be expecting come October next year.”
Full details, including sponsors and media are still to be finalised for the 2012 race, however Lloyd says that with the 30th edition will come some very special activities.
“We are already planning some very exciting events regarding the 30th edition of the race. For a start there have been some world-class runners at the event over the years and we hope to bring a host of former winners back to Llanberis in 2012”, concludes Lloyd.
