Prestigious international silver label to Copenhagen Half Marathon

Copenhagen Half Marathon is one of the world’s best and largest running events and has now been awarded an even more impressive seal of approval: the former bronze label has been upgraded to a silver label.

After a successful premiere in 2015, the organising team behind Copenhagen Half Marathon has been hard at work in planning the 2016-version of Denmark’s new world class race. Last year’s experiences are being analysed and all the details are being adjusted to further improve on the popular half marathon. One of the aims is to replace last year’s bronze label with the even more prestigious silver label. Just recently, Cph Half was awarded this silver label by IAAF, the International Association of Athletics Federations.

 

IAAF awards bronze, silver, and gold labels based on criteria like the route, event organisation, the technical aspects of the race, TV-transmission, the number elite runners, plus a wide range of other factors matched by CPH Half.

 

Beautiful Place – Beautiful Race

These words are David Katz’ description of Cph Half. Katz is one of the world’s leading and most experienced experts in the technical aspects of running. He elaborates: “Copenhagen Half Marathon truly deserves the silver label, for it is simply one of the best road races in the world. There is a welcoming atmosphere of warmth and cordiality which is a particularly attractive thing for runners from abroad. Creating this atmosphere is the true test of the race organisers. In addition, CPH Half is extraordinarily well organised – the co-operation between the club and the association (Sparta and the Danish Athletics Foundation) works flawlessly.”

 

David Katz, who works for IAAF, visited Copenhagen in connection with CPH Half in 2015. He went through the technical details of the event leading up to the premiere of the first road race in Scandinavia when the race was awarded this prestigious international seal of approval.

 

Procedurally, the road races will have to first be awarded the bronze label, then silver, and then gold in said order. The team behind CPH Half have set their eyes on taking the last step in 2017 as an official evidence of the fact that Denmark has one of the world’s foremost road races.

 

“We are proud that IAAF has awarded Copenhagen Half Marathon with the silver label. It is a clear indication that we are heading in the right direction chasing the world elite when it comes to the technical aspects of running events which should be noticeable for the participants at our events”, says the president of The Danish Athletics Foundation, Jakob Larsen.

  

Copenhagen Half Marathon will continue to boast an immensely fast route well suited for record breaking. In its first year, Cph Half delivered the top elite results among all European half marathons. (source: all-athletics.com)

  • Favourite Bedan Karoki Munciri (KEN) won Copenhagen Half Marathon setting a personal best with a finish time of 59:14. 2nd and 3rd finishers were Alex Oloitiptip Korio (KEN) and Edwin Kipyego (KEN) respectively.
