parkrun update with most events active in August

happy group run

The Head of Event Delivery of parkrun UK, Helen Hood,  recently updated the running community on the returning parkruns across the UK. More than 500 5k parkruns have now resumed across England, and 11-14 year olds are logging walks, jogs and runs at 200+ junior parkruns.

There are still a small number of events without confirmed return dates and parkrunUK continue to work with landowners and event teams to get them back up and running as soon as possible. With this in mind, please do check local event web pages, and social media, before attending any parkrun event.

In Northern Ireland the majority of both 5k and junior parkrun events are now operating. Please visit event specific web pages, and social media, to check the status of your local parkrun.

Currently more than 90% of events in Scotland have landowner permission to return. And over the weekend both adults and 11-14 year olds will record a walk, jog or run at junior parkrun events.

The Scottish communities are again blossoming with parkruns and parkrunUK continue to work with landowners, event teams, and ambassadors to reopen all remaining events soon. To check whether your local event is on please go to their event website and/or check their social media channels or see the list of events reported via the parkrun site below.

In Wales the parkrun return date is 21st August. Landowner permissions continue to increase with over 65% of locations.  To find out if your local event is open (or requires more volunteers) please see their local social media channels. Event websites will update from early next week and are subject to change as further landowner permissions are granted. All junior parkrun events in Wales are able to operate within guidelines set out by the Welsh Government, and so can already return. With 5k events returning from Saturday 21 August, children aged 11-14 will be able to record a walk, jog or run at all open junior parkrun events in Wales from Sunday 22 August.

In the UK during the first week of August, more than 120,000 people took part in a parkrun, supported by over 17,000 volunteers. There were more than 9,000 people walking, jogging, running or volunteering for the very first time.

For more information on any parkrun event, or to get involved as a volunteer, please do visit local event pages on the website, or their associated social media channels, and get in touch.

Andy Heyes (handicap -5.5) and Sophie Harris (handicap -5.5) were the fastest UK parkrunners over the weekend with 14:47 and 16:45 respectively at the Eastville and Northampton parkruns. Sophie was the outright winner too in Northampton!
