Military Man, Brett Gunning increases his weight by 35 pounds to run the Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon for charity

Brett 35 pounds Gunning

Sargeant Brett Gunning, who has been serving in the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards for almost 20 years, is set to finish the Ikano Bank Nottingham Half Marathon complete with 35 pounds (~17kg) of military kit strapped to his back. This is his fourth weighted half-marathon in recent months,

Based in the south of the country, Brett has completed the half-marathons, all under three hours, in Fleet, Windsor and  Aldershot. Brett will finish the final leg of his challenge in his home town of Nottingham at the Ikano Bank Robin Hood Half Marathon

What makes this an even more momentous occasion is that Brett will walk his final mile with John Dawson - a wounded solider from his regiment. John suffered severe injuries back in 2012 whilst serving in Afghanistan. He was left paralysed down the right side of his body but over the last few years, the inspirational solider has gone from using a wheelchair to being able to walk again - a massive achievement!

Brett is helping raise money for the Regimental charity, where you can donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sgt-gunning3

The Ikano Bank Robin Hood Half Marathon headline charity partner is Cancer Research UK and donations will help fund continued research into a cure for this devastating disease. A host of local charities will also benefit from the efforts of hundreds of seasoned runners taking part on their behalf. This year's local charity partners include the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre at Nottingham University, the Children's Brain Tumour Trust and Nottingham Hospitals Charity.

Entries for the marathon close on the 5th September 2017, with spaces are still available through the link here

Registration for the half-marathon is £34.95 with a £5 discount available to England Athletics Registered Athletes (£29.95) and Wheelchair Half Marathon concessions are £10.
