Nominations for “Best Sporting Moment of the Year" - Vote and Win!

New York City – AUGUST, 2017 – Kathrine Switzer’s historic run in the 2017 Boston Marathon 50 years after her debut in 1967, has been nominated for “Best Sporting Moment of the Year” by the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards. The honour recognises a women’s long-distance running pioneer who became the first woman to officially register and complete the famed Boston Marathon in 1967 and then celebrate the feat by running on the 50th anniversary this year.
This is the first year the Laureus World Sports Awards will honour the “Best Sporting Moment of the Year,” and the organisation is allowing fans to vote in the global online polling. Switzer’s nomination is named “Run for Rights,” and you can vote online through August 31, 2017. By participating in the voting process, you have a chance to win VIP tickets to the awards ceremony, scheduled for February 14, 2018 in Monaco.
Laureus created the new category to “look beyond the scoreboard or podium,” and to honour athletes who “symbolise the true value of sport and bring to life the message that sports has the power to change the world.”
Switzer has done just that after she pioneered an era of participation in all sports, not just running, by women of all ages. Her story has inspired a generation of women athletes as Switzer successfully launched “261 Fearless” with the mission to use running as a vehicle to empower and unite women globally through the creation of clubs, education opportunities, a new communication platform and special events.
“We are encouraging women runners of all abilities to support each other by promoting a healthy lifestyle, a positive sense of self and fearlessness,” said Switzer. “The 261 Fearless Club network is creating a new and wide-ranging global presence to connect club members from cities throughout the USA with runners from all over the world.”
You can support Switzer’s efforts by taking part in the online voting by visiting www.mylaureus.com and voting for Switzer and the “Run for Rights” nomination before Sept. 1, 2017.
