Nick Goolab breaks British record for 5km

Nick Goolab was the star performer over the international  weekend of racing to eclipse the 13:30 British 5k record, previously held jointly by Mo Farah and Rob Denmark. Nick ran a sensational 13:27 behind Joshua Cheptegei (UGA) who ran a world record of 12:51 and Jimmy Gressier (FRA) who broke the European record with 13:18. Ben Connor and Charlotte Arter were half marathon heroes in Barcelona with sterling performances to rise up the runbritain rankings.

At the Herculis 5K in Monaco, NickGoolab (handicap -5.3 ) broke the British 5km road record with an astonishing 13:27 performance on the roads of the French principality, securing third position overall.  The result moves him to the top of the all-time 5k rankings above previous record holders Mo Farah (handicap -6.4) and Rob Demnark who had both run 13:30. The race in Monaco was won by Joshua Cheptegei (UGA) in 12:51, a new world record, with Jimmy Gressier (FRA) grabbing a new European record of 13:18. 

At the Barcelona Half Marathon in Spain, Charlotte Arter (handicap -2.4) continued her excellent form as she took a fifth place in 70:00. Having broken the female parkrun record a recently, she followed up with a solid performance on the course where she set her personal best last year to cut the tape 3:23 behind eventual winner, Ashete Bekere (ETH).

Samantha Harrison (handicap -2.2) took more than a minute off her personal best as she earned herself 13^th position, crossing the line in 71:44, while there was a personal best time of 72:12 for Ann Marie McGlynn  (handicap -0.8)  and Tracy Barlow (handicap -2.2)  who was rewarded with the same time in 16^th and 17^th. Clara Evans (handicap -2.2) turned in an impressive 72:29

Ben Connor (handicap -6.6) was top Brit in the men’s race as he clocked a season’s best 61:34 to take eighth position overall, with Kris Jones (handicap -6.3) clocking 63:09.  Joshua Griffiths (handicap -5.8) ran 63:33 and Frank Baddick (handicap -5.0) finished with 63:54. 

James West (handicap -4.9) was the star performer in the Husky Classic in Seattle, as he took victory in the men’s mile in a season’s best 3:57.43, with Marc Scott (handicap -6.1) coming second in the  men’s 3000m, clocking 7:46.11.
