The fifth race in the runbritain Grand Prix took place on Sunday at the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon and Nicholas Torry (handicap MINUS 5.0) increased his lead at the top of the table in the men's race whilst Katrina Wootton (handicap MINUS 1.0) remained in top position in the women's competition.
All of the men who are currently in the top ten in the Grand Prix took to the start line in Cardiff. Nicholas was the first of them to cross the line and he also bagged an extra 100 points for breaking the 65 minute barrier (64:23) giving him 350 points. Ben Livesey (handicap MINUS 4.6) finished just 15 seconds behind him and earned himself 349 points for 2nd place plus the time bonus. This is the first race in the Grand Prix that Ben has done this year and so his position on the table is currently 83rd. Dewi Griffiths (handicap MINUS 2.9) finished next to earn 248 points.
Nicholas Torry now has 1288 points from his best four races in the series. He has raced in all five and improved as the year has gone on and so his 241 total from the 1st race, the Mizuno Reading Half Marathon has been dropped in favour of his better scores. In 2nd is Dave Webb (handicap MINUS 4.3) but Dave will have to earn an extra 200 bonus points (break 29:30) at the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash on 17 November to upstage Nicholas now as Dave has 1094 points from the four races he has run.
Katrina Wootton is currently leading the women's competition but she didn't race at Cardiff. Tish Jones (handicap MINUS 0.2) was the first British finisher and so she added 250 points to her score that already had 500 from the Mizuno Reading Half Marathon and the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k. Katrina is probably too far away now though to be caught as she already has 1047 points from just three races. Jessica Parry-Williams (handicap 1.1) was the second British finisher on Sunday but this is her first race in the 2013 Grand Prix. Next in was Claire Jacobs (handicap 1.6) who has taken her total to 966 after four races. Andrea Whitcombe (handicap 0.7) is now on 990 after gaining 247 points on Sunday.
Further down the table Sarah Tudor (handicap 12.8) made her entrance onto the table by scoring 1 point for a time of 99:51.
Well done to all who raced on Sunday. We hope to see you at the final race in the Grand Prix on 17 November at the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash.
