New city centre route announced for Ramathon

Ramathon

Ramathon – the Derby Half Marathon – taking place on Sunday 5th June at Derby’s iPro Stadium will include a new city centre section as part of a revised and enhanced route currently being worked on by Ramathon’s Race Director and team.

The route will leave the iPro Stadium and lead straight into the city centre, through Market Place and past the cathedral before heading back down along London Road. The scenic Elvaston Castle Country Park will once again be a key feature of the route.

The new city and scenic route taking in Derby’s key landmarks will provide an enhanced race experience both for previous Ramathon runners – including those that travelled as far as from Australia for last year’s event – and prospective entrants alike.

Ramathon’s Race Director, Richard Kay, said

Since it came back to Derby in 2014, the Ramathon has grown significantly and we have continued to develop and improve the route to reflect that growth.  For 2016, we really wanted to further enhance the Ramathon experience by bringing the best that Derby has to offer to the course route.  By including the city centre in the revised route, runners get the opportunity to take in the excitement and bustle of the city, followed by the stunning scenery of Elvaston Castle Country Park and the river path, culminating in a grand finish at Derby’s iPro Stadium.  With the new city centre section included in the route for 2016, the Ramathon will have a really positive impact on businesses and the local economy.  We think this year’s race will truly show off Derby in all its glory – to runners, spectators and the local businesses that will be taking part on race day. We expect that 2016’s event will really help to put the city on the map.”
