Mo Farah has set a new British and European 1500m record of 3:28.81 as he finished second to Asbel Kiprop at the Monaco leg of the IAAF Diamond League tonight.
Mo, who is currently sitting at the top of the ladder in the runbritain handicap rankings, narrowly lost out to Kenyan Kiprop, whose 3:27.72 was a new 2013 world leading time, but broke Steve Cram’s 28 year old British record.
Steve Cram, witnessed the performance whilst commentating for the BBC,saying, "..and Mo Farah, as I stand and commentate, may well have just broken my record for 1500m!"
Mo said that he was competing in the 1500m to improve his speed for next month's World Championship where he will run 5000m and 10000m.
Could you step down in distance to improve your speed for the longer events? Perhaps we should all take a leaf out of Mo's book!
