Marvellous Mimi - The Viking Way Ultra
Marvellous Mimi - who many of you will know thanks to her regular updates to the runbritain site - would like to thank everyone who sponsored her for her last race; she finished the 100-miler in seventh overall and first female in a time of 18hrs 50 minutes - she says you are all fantastic!
Here, she’s provided another short update on her forthcoming plans (“big challenge number two, The Viking Way Ultra”) which kicks off on Easter Sunday at 7am.
The Viking Way Ultra starts in the shadows of the Humber Bridge and finishes 148 miles later at the Library in Oakham.
Runners have 40 hours to complete the race and there are cut-offs at 50 and 100 miles. There is very little support out on the course except for checkpoints every 15 - 18 miles which will be stocked with 2 litres of water per runner and very little else...and just to add a bit more of a twist, we have to navigate using a map, no GPS allowed!
Once again, I will be raising money for and awareness of a cause known as 10 Million Metres which was set up by a friend who, four years ago, at the age of 36 was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. This is a disease that affects over six million people of all ages across the world and will slowly rob those suffering with this condition of the ability to move, among other things.
If you can find it in your hearts, dig deep into your pockets and find a few spare pounds to please help me help those with Parkinson's KEEP MOVING. You can donate by going to: http://www.justgiving.com/marvellousmimi1
Thank you again for your outstanding support. I will be looking forward to my Easter egg when I get home, providing of course that my family don't eat it first!
