Laura Muir (coach: Andy Young) finished second and Reece Prescod (Jonas Dodoo) third as nine Brits took to the track at the most competitive Diamond League meeting of the season so far in Eugene.

Laura Muir (handicap -2.0), who is fifth on the women's National Ladder, took an impressive second in the 1500m at Hayward Field while Prescod was a fast finisher as he placed third in a high quality windy 100m.

Elsewhere Dina Asher-Smith (John Blackie) posted her best 100m time since 2015 on a night of promise at the third Diamond League of the season in the US.

Kyle Langford (handicap -6.1), who is 8th on the men's National Ladder, was the first Brit to compete on the first night at Hayward Field, placing fifth in the 800m in 1:46.53 as he returns to action after silver at the Commonwealth Games.

Holly Bradshaw (Scott Simpson) kicked off the day two action placing eighth in the pole vault with a best of 4.35m before Prescod’s blistering run in the 100m at Hayward Field.

Winner of the Shanghai Diamond League in 10.04 seconds, 0.01 outside his personal best, Prescod clocked 9.88 for third place in Eugene however it was with an illegal wind.

If legal that time would have put Prescod within 0.01 of Linford Christie’s long standing British record but still leaves plenty of promise for the finalist from last year’s World Championships.

Prescod had company in the 100m in world champion CJ Ujah (Stuart McMillan), who clocked 10.12 to place sixth as Ronnie Baker beat compatriot Christian Coleman for victory.

Asher-Smith swiftly followed up Prescod’s impressive effort with an 11.06 for sixth in the women’s 100m, the Commonwealth bronze medallists quickest time since 2015.

Then came Muir’s second position in the 1500m in 3:59.30, the newly-qualified vet splitting two Americans as she begins her summer season after finishing a busy period of final university exams.

Teammate Laura Weightman (handicap -2.2), who currently sits in 3rd on the Ladder, placed 12th in the same race while world indoor champion Andrew Pozzi (Benke Blomkvist) battled food poisoning to finish seventh in the 110m hurdles.

Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (Dennis Shaver) completed the British action in the 200m, clocking 20.51 for fifth as American favourite Noah Lyles hit 19.69 for victory.
