...there were 29 Guinness World Records at the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 22 April.

The intrepid runners who went in pursuit of record-breaking performances were rewarded with 29 new entries into the Guinness Book of Records following yesterday's race, reflecting the spirit of adventure which is at the heart of the event.

They comprised:

*The fastest marathon dressed as a book character (Dracula): 2:42:17 by David Stone

*The fastest marathon dressed as a jester: 3:01:56 by Alexander Scherz

*The fastest marathon dressed as a Roman Soldier: 2:57 by David Tomlin

*The fastest marathon dressed as a vegetable: 2:59:33 by Edward Lumley

*The fastest marathon in a nurse's uniform (male): 2:51:37 by Kevin Harvey

*The fastest marathon dressed as a golfer (male): 3:10:04 by Simon Le Mare

*The fastest marathon by a mascot (female): "Alfie the Guide Dog", 4:06:06 by Wendy Shaw

*The fastest marathon dressed as a baby (male): 3:11:53 by Michael Bringham

*The fastest marathon dressed as a book character (female): " Wally's Friend Wenda", 3:39:49 by Julie Donald

*The fastest marathon wearing a gas mask: 3:28:38 by Andy McMahon

*The fastest marathon dressed as a fairy: 2:49:44 by Martin Hulbert

*The fastest marathon in school uniform (male): 3:36:51 by Tony Audenshaw

*The fastest marathon in school uniform (female): 3:33:52 by Amy Tanner

*The fastest marathon dressed as a video games character was jointly achieved by Dan McCormack (Luigi) and Nash Pradhan (Mario). They both recorded times of 3:29:41

*The fastest marathon by an animal costume (female) - peacock: 3:18:09 by Susannah Gil

*The fastest marathon hula hooping: 5:05:57 by Sasha Kenney

*The fastest marathon dressed as an insect (female) - bee: 3:32:30 by Magdalene Bennett

*The official Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon on stilts - George and Charley Phillips (brother and sister): 6:50:02
