Jonny Glen and Annabel Simpson returned to a fast 5 lap course in the Cycle Park at Lochgellyin Fife. The small-scale elite and enclosed event with no spectators and with other Covid-19 protocols was effectively a ‘road-test’ for future possibilities as reported by Scottish Athletics.
A course of five laps of around 1000m, with an uphill start, provided the platform on a still day that reordered the 2020 runbritain rankings.
Jonny Glen (handicap -5.8) broke clear of Jamie Crowe (handicap -6.2) over the final 400m to win in 14.06, just 5 seconds outside his best. With Crowe at 14:08, Kristian Jones (handicap -6.3) was third in 14:10 and the best of the juniors was Kane Elliott (handicap -3.2) in 14th with14:39.
Annabel Simpson (handicap -0.4) with a winning time of 16:28, led the women’s race from the start with junior, Megan Keith (handicap 0.0) for close company. Naomi Lang (handicap 2.6) and Rebecca Johnson (handicap 0.8) led the fightback in the latter stages to Keith and the Scottish U20 Athlete of the Year ultimately had to settle for fifth with Morag Millar taking an excellent fourth place having returned to competition after the birth of her first child.
