Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon
The Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon, which will take place on Sunday 30 September 2012 in Nottingham, was officially launched this week with a mass run and the unveiling of a new flat, fast and scenic route.
Over 200 runners followed the exclusive ‘I want to run’ invite by the organisers and took part in a 4km run which started and finished at Victoria Embankment, Nottingham.
The event was organised to celebrate the official launch of the Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon, creating an inspirational ‘I want to run’ atmosphere and an air of excitement to be amongst the first to see the new route for 2012.
A huge prize package - including the infamous 2012 race number - was also up for grabs and awarded to the runner who hit the target and crossed the finish line in the secret time set by Robin Hood himself.
The secret winning time had been set at 20 minutes and 30 seconds, which was achieved by Eva Tothova from Nottingham, and the prize package – which was very impressive and included entry to the Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon 2012; the elusive 2012 race number; a £50 Sweatshop voucher; a pair of New Balance 1080 V2 running shoes; a Lucozade Training pack; a Garmin 21;, a personalised gait analysis through the Sweatshop Nottingham store; and inclusion in the “keeping on target” press campaign - was handed over by Steve Burnside, Managing Director of Ikano, alongside local heroes Robin Hood and Maid Marian.
Burnside commented: “This is a superb launch event, uniting the community with a real sense of team spirit. We’re proud to be the headline sponsor, especially in the Olympic year. We’re already looking forward to race day on the 30th September and want to wish everyone luck with their training over the coming months.”
Another highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the new flatter faster route which will take runners through the city centre, the university grounds and along the River Trent. Organisers say that it’s an ideal course for beginners as well as faster runners looking for a PB. Entry fees remain unchanged at £27.75 for UKA affiliated club runners and £29.75 for all other runners, including a medal and a goody bag at the finish.
The new website has launched and registration is now open.
