Herefordshire Festival of Sport announce prize structure for top British finishers

Herefordshire Festival of Sport

Could you be one of the top British finishers at the 2015 Herefordshire Festival of Sport? Could your team be the first British team?

The Herefordshire Running Festival, which has since evolved into the Herefordshire Festival of Sport after its inaugural success on 21st September 2014, has announced the prize structure for the next annual event on Sunday 20th September 2015. £2000 of prize money will be split between the top three British male and female winners for the Marathon only and £500 will go to the first British team that performs well over all three events.

The individual prizes for men and women will be as follows:

1st - £600

2nd - £300

3rd - £100

The team competition requires clubs to enter at least one male and one female runner in each distance (marathon, half marathon and 10K - excludes fun run). The best points for male and female runners in each distance will be accumulated to the total points and the club with the highest points will win. Given that there are three distances within the festival, the minimum per team is six runners and the maximum 12 (two males and females for each distance). There is a benchmark time for each race and points will be rewarded as follows:

The Festival look forward to welcoming runners of all levels from the elite to club to recreational runners:

After a gap of 13 years from the city, Herefordshire Festival of Sport aims to put together a top class elite field to celebrate the return of the marathon for its second year. The Festival team are passionate about supporting home grown, British talent and so are investing in our rising stars as they work towards excellence and improving standards in road running. This event provides a fantastic opportunity for the elite runners in Britain to showcase their ability in a competitive field.

In addition, the team are committed to supporting the continued development of athletics and running clubs and so have created this exciting and unique opportunity for clubs to bring together runners training for a range of events to compete as a team

The event started as a 10K and two mile fun run in 2012, aiming to promote good physical and mental health. The event organisers are Fit+Healthy Minds, a partnership between Herefordshire Mind (a mental health charity) and Fit+Healthy (an events management and coaching company). This partnership has enabled the event to grow over the years to become the Herefordshire Running Festival and now, the Herefordshire Festival of Sport which will include cycling for 2015 in partnership with NFTO Race Club.

These companies will continue to work together to promote better mental wellbeing, social inclusion and community involvement and to encourage runners of all levels from recreational to club to elite to work towards their own goals and targets as they enjoy running through the stunning countryside of Herefordshire.

Online entries are not open until 30/01/2015.
