Hastings Half Marathon entries will help victims of Typhoon Haiyan

Hastings Lions Club, organisers of the popular Hastings Half Marathon, have announced that they will put £1 from every entry fee for the 2014 Half Marathon Event towards helping the people recovering from the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
It is hoped that the sum of £5000 will be raised. The money will be put to use by the Lions Clubs in the Philippines so that every penny goes towards helping rebuild lives and livelihoods in the aftermath of this disaster. Race Director, Eric Hardwick MBE, said "Hastings is a fishing fleet town and we empathise with the people of the islands of the Philippines. It is our intention that the money will go towards rebuilding houses and schools and supplying new fishing boats and equipment where needed".
Entrants for the Hastings Half Marathon will be able to see how their money is helping as the race organisers will update with news on the race website http://www.hastings-half.co.uk
Runners are also encouraged to raise funds for the appeal through sponsorship at the event.
