Griffiths and Felton victorious in runbritain Grand Prix

Dewi Griffiths (handicap -5.6) and Rachel Felton (handicap -0..6) were crowned the overall winners of the 2015 runbritain Grand Prix as the series concluded at the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash on Sunday 15 November.

The top of the men’s standings were only decided at the final race in Yorkshire as the runners battled for the final places and their share of the £18,800 prize money.

Dewi's second position at the final race took him to the top of the Grand Prix leader board finishing with 1592 points in total. He went into the event in second and claimed 349 points for 2nd position in the race and a sub 30 clocking (29:47). Dewi pushed John Beattie (handicap -4.8) into 2nd place on the table. Although John raced in Leeds, his position was lower than it had been at the four other Grand Prix races that he had done and so his points remained on 1485.

Rachel Felton (handicap -0.6) went into this final race in top postion and increased her lead by just one point by finishing one place higher (5th) than she did at the Bupa London 10000 in May. Rachel finished with 992 points.

Michelle Ross-Cope (handicap -0.8) moved herself from 7th to 2nd, on the table, by finishing 6th in this final race. She had previously only done three of the races and so her 245 points propelled her up the table and past Faye Fullerton (handicap -1.0) despite Faye finishing in 2nd on Sunday. This was Faye's fifth race in the series and so she gained only five extra points for a better position than she had in the Reading Half Marathon and Cardiff 10k. There was only one point separating the two in the final standings with 988 for Michelle and 987 for Faye. Jenny Spink (handicap -0.6) also propelled herself up the standings from eighth to fourth as she claimed 9th place in the final race in what was her 4th race of the series.

At all six events that make up the runbritain Grand Prix, points are awarded for the first 250 finishing positions. 250 points are awarded for the first British finisher, down to 1 point for the 250th British finisher with time bonuses also available. Up to the best four scores from the six available races count at the end of the series. Prize money totals £18,000 and is shared by the top 10 male and female British runners.

Congratulations to everyone who finished on the scoreboard. Those finishing in the top ten can expect their cheques to be delivered in December.
