Greater Manchester Marathon Relay Team Challenge 2013

Greater Manchester Marathon

Organisers of the Greater Manchester Marathon on 28 April 2013 have announced an exciting addition to the 2013 race: the Relay Team Challenge.

The Relay Team Challenge is aimed at runners of all levels who want to experience the inspiring marathon day atmosphere without tackling the full 26.2 miles themselves. Instead, friends, club mates, work colleagues and family members can sign up as a team of four, covering the marathon distance between them.

This is also a great opportunity for corporate teams to get involved, with the aim to encourage health, fitness and team spirit in the work place while simultaneously raising the profile of the business. Raising money for charity is a key factor too, with the company or team’s nominated charity benefiting from the running efforts of the relay team.

Teams are made up of four runners, each of which needs to cover one leg of the relay measuring either 10.7km, 7.8km, 11.5km or 12.2km. The chosen team captain should enter through the event website and register the team’s details. The entry fee for the team is £120 and includes the entry fee for four runners, the chosen team name on everyone’s race number, a race technical t-shirt and a finisher’s medal for all team members, plus bus transport to and from the changeover points.

A maximum of 500 teams can sign up, and with the Greater Manchester Marathon being the flattest in the UK with only 55m elevation gain, the relay is guaranteed to be a popular option.

There will be prizes for the fastest male, female, mixed and corporate teams as well as for the team that raises the most money for charity through their Virgin Money Giving fundraising page.

Athletics legend Ron Hill MBE has pledged his support for the marathon in his hometown and he will be starting the race before joining the running crowds for the initial eight miles. Manchester Evening News, 102 Capital FM, Men’s Running and Women’s Running have been announced as media partners for the Greater Manchester Marathon 2013, while  sponsors of the 2013 race include Brooks Sports, Up & Running, Clif Bar and MLP Solicitors.
