100k podium men 2022 Matt Dickinson winner

A strong Great Britain and Northern Ireland team will compete at the World 100km Championships in Berlin, Germany on Saturday 27 August.

Following team selection in April, eight athletes will represent the country over the challenging discipline.

Based on personal bests, Jo Murphy (handicap 7.2)  leads the way in the women’s field for the British quartet as she recorded a time of 7:41:12 at the Anglo Celtic Plate Home Countries International earlier this year which placed her sixth on the UK all-time rankings.

Sam Amend (handicap 2.5), who has represented Great Britain at 50k and 100k, and has a PB of 7:48:39, will be also one to watch in the women’s race. Amy Sarkies(handicap 4.0) ran a time of 8:00.50 at the trial earlier this year, while Caroline Turner(handicap 4.1) was third in that race, running her first 100k in 7:51:39.

With seven men breaking the seven-hour barrier at the trial earlier this year, the four athletes competing at the Championships will be highly competitive against the international field.

Matt Dickinson(handicap -2.9) ran a very quick 6:39:34 at the trial which placed him sixth on the UK all time rankings, while Jason Kelly(handicap -3.3) ran a very solid 6.42:23 for second which placed him seventh on those rankings.

Ollie Garrod(handicap -4.3), an experienced marathon and 50k runner, moved up in distance earlier in 2022, with a PB of 6:46:50. Gareth King (handicap -2.1) was fourth at the trial in a time of 6:47:33, completes the men’s quartet. King has followed this with a 2:54:42 50k race in Belfast’s Victoria Park passing the marathon distance in 2: 26:50. This 50k time ranks as the 5th fastest ever in the UK.
