Fast running in Barcelona rewrites the rankings

This weekend's Barcelona Half Marathon provided great conditions for our half marathon rankings with seven out of the top 10 coming from this race on both the men's and women's lists. Charlotte Arter (handicap -2.0) and Ann-Marie McGlynn (handicap 0.6) were in record breaking form to take the Welsh and Northern Ireland records respectively.
Barcelona Half Marathon, Barcelona, Spain, 10 February
Charlotte Arter (handicap -2.0) underlined her class as she moved to eighth on the British all-time list for the half-marathon, slicing a full two minutes off her previous best. Making the most of the seasonal Spanish conditions, the Welsh and British international finished fifth on the day and first European by over two minutes. She becomes the second Brit to move into the top 10 all-time in the space of week, after Charlotte Purdue’s (handicap -1.2) run last weekend. Arter and Purdue sit one-two on the runbritain rankings for 2019.
Also in the top 10 on the day were Ann-Marie McGlynn (handicap 0.6) with a Northern Ireland record of 71:59. Sonia Samuels (handicap -0.7) and Lily Partridge (handicap -1.8), both ran exactly the same time, 72.20, for ninth and tenth.
The men’s race also saw great depth, with many inside 65 minutes and seven new entries in the top ten of the rankings. Loughborough based Kevin Seaward (handicap -4.7) led the way with an impressive 63.38 personal best. Dan Studley (handicap -4.3) ran 63.58 in 17th place with Dominic Shaw (handicap -4.9) next home in 64.29 and Lucian Allison (handicap -4.7) just one second behind.
