It’s only been a week since the Ikano Bank Robin Hood Marathon events but already thoughts are turning to next year's competition. The 2018 event, which will be the 38th year it’s been running, is due to be held on Sunday 30thSeptember, where early bird discountentries for the Half and Mini Marathon are open.

More than 12,000 runners took to the streets of Nottingham on Sunday 24thSeptember2017, which saw British athlete Chris Thompson (handicap -5.5) crowned winner of the Men’s Half Marathon, who also claimed the prestigious British Athletics championship title, recording a time of 1:04:58.

Post-race, Chris Thompson said. “I felt relieved crossing the finish line, I wanted to run exactly how I ran. I got to 10 miles and felt comfortable, then I got confused with the pace I was running and with a mile to go I needed to run a 4.49 mile and I thought,‘I haven't come all this way not to get the time I wanted’. I managed to run in 64 (minutes) 58 (seconds), sneaking under my target which was great. It was a tough course. I'm really pleased to have run like that, I felt strong.”

Emily Waugh (handicap 0.9) won the Women’s Half Marathon with a fantastic race time of 1:18:01. She said: “It was amazing to cross the finish line in 1st place.  It's my first ever time doing the British Championships and I only did my first half marathon this year.  I never expected to be in the top 3 let alone win it!

“The crowd were amazing through the whole course. Even the people running the marathon were so supportive, such a great atmosphere. To become a British champion means everything.”

Judith Manson, Race Director, said: “I would like to thank the city and the people of Nottingham, who have hosted such a fantastic event and raised thousands of pounds for charity. I’d like to congratulate all of our winners but more importantly all of the volunteers, who contributed massively to such an exhilarating day!

“We would also like to thank all of our event partners and sponsors, who without them such an event would not be possible. We wish to see everybody back next year, where we believe the event will continue to go from strength to strength.”

To mark the opening of entries, there is a special early bird price available until 31st October, of just £29.95 entry for the half marathon and £10.50 for the mini marathon.
