Entries open tomorrow for International Snowdon Race - headline sponsor announced

The 2012 International Snowdon Race / Ras-yr-Wyddfa organising committee have announced a brand-new headline sponsor for the 37th edition of the classic mountain race, which takes place on the 21st of July and races from Llanberis to the summit and back again of the highest mountain in England and Wales.

Volvo main dealer Tyn Lon Volvo are based Llanfairpwll on the Isle of Anglesey and will back the race through to 2014, in an initiative which will see the dealership invest in the event with vehicles, branding and marketing support.

Organisers are expecting a scramble for places as this year’s race entry form goes live on the 1st of March. The race entry system opens to 200 runners who have previously run the race in the last 5 years, with the event opening to a further 400 runners on the 17th of March and with the race limit set at 600 entries in total demand will be high.

The entry system will once again be through the race website www.snowdonrace.co.uk, where applicants can download the race entry form.

Managing Director of Tyn Lon Volvo, Neil Williams states:

Tyn Lon Volvo is very excited to be apart of this iconic event. The International Snowdon Race is renowned for its atmosphere and engagement with the people of Llanberis, Wales and many parts of the world. We will have a large presence at the race sports village, we'll have Volvo show cars and a hospitality tent and hope that this is the start of a great relationship with the race."

Race organiser Stephen Edwards comments:

"We are really pleased with this announcement. The Snowdon Race has a long history of association with international brands, running or otherwise, over the years. But this year it is really great to be connecting with an international brand on a more local level. Tyn Lon has a long history in Gwynedd, and a great reputation as a local business where quality and service is at its heart - something we also strive for at the Snowdon Race."

Regarding entries for the event, he adds:

"We have already had a huge amount of interest, with many emails and phone calls asking when and how people can enter this year’s event.

Entries will be online via the Snowdon Race website on the 1st of March - particularly important to us here in Wales as it is also St. Davids Day! Last year we had a full field by the end of March, and we expect the limit to reached even quicker this year”.

The race programme is yet to be finalised, however there will be International racing as always, and also continuation and emphasis on junior racing. A programme of events, starting just after the main 16km race will see races for U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 year olds, varying in length all the way to a 6.4km race for the under 18’s, to the Halfway Bridge and back to the finish in Parc Padarn.

Edwards concludes:

Llanberis is very proud to host this race and the community take a pride in welcoming all the visitors it attracts. We want people to leave the Snowdon Race with a lasting memory of fun, sport and an enjoyable stay in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.”
