runbritain ladder leaders shine at the European Championships

The European Athletics Championships finished yesterday with outstanding performances from many British athletes including our National Ladder leader, Laura Muir (handicap -3.2) who won the women's 1500m, last night, to take her first European title with a mid race burst of pace.

In third position, behind Laura (handicap -3.2), was Laura Weightman (handicap -2.5), who sits in 3rd on the ladder, and Manchester based Ciara Mageean claimed 4th spot in what was a closely fought race.

Also last night, Rosie Clarke (handicap -1.2)  ran close to the British record in the steeplechase with a 9:32.15 performance to bring her home in 10th position.

Eilish McColgan (handicap -2.9), second on the ladder, had her finest championship moment with a magnificent silver over 5000m in 14:53.  Melissa Courtney (handicap -2.4) and Steph Twell (handicap -2.5) followed in 15:04 for 5th place and 15:41 for 10th place respectively.  

Although Mo Farah (handicap -7.3) leads the ladder, second placer Jake Wightman (handicap -6.6) may well have moved closer as he took bronze in the 1500m just ahead of Charlie Grice (handicap -6.5) and  Chris O'Hare (handicap -6.4) in 5th  and 9th respectively. This race was won by the outstanding 'new kid on the block', 17-year old Jakob Ingebrigtsen, from Norway, who also won the 5000m.

Seasoned distance runner, Marc Scott (handicap -6.6) ran a season's best of 13:23 in the 5000m ahead of Chris Thompson (handicap -6.6), who is third on the ladder,  with Ben Connor (handicap -6.5) running a 13:25 PB,  behind the amazing Norwegian teenage 13:17 winner.
